What a deployment actually covers

Sizing before spend

Peak concurrent calls, CPS, average call duration, codec mix, whether media is relayed, and whether recording or transcoding is needed. A switch handling short broadcast attempts behaves nothing like one handling long support calls.

Installation and hardening

Operating system, database, switch software, web portal, SIP and RTP port policy, firewall rules, administrative access restricted to approved addresses, and management traffic separated from customer traffic.

Carrier and routing setup

Gateway configuration, authentication by registration or IP, codec negotiation, dial plans, prefix normalisation, least-cost and failover routing rules.

Billing and resellers

Rate deck import, billing increments, customer and reseller hierarchy, credit limits, balance rules, and CDR access that reconciles against what carriers bill you.

Fraud containment

Destination blocks, per-account credit and concurrency ceilings, CPS limits, spend alerting and automatic suspension. A compromised account can generate thousands of dollars of premium-rate traffic overnight.

Migration without a blackout

Moving from an existing switch means exporting configuration, rate tables, customers and CDR history, running both in parallel, then cutting over with a tested rollback.

Ask for these in writing

A server quotation listing only CPU, RAM and storage is incomplete. Confirm the switch and billing modules installed, the version and licence ownership, user and reseller limits, upgrade rights, API and CDR access, data-centre location, public IP allocation, DDoS protection, backup policy, and — critically — which party owns each ongoing task after delivery. Frequently asked questions

What is a VOS server?

A VOS or VoIP switch server is a softswitch platform used to manage SIP accounts, customer balances, rate tables, routing rules, billing, reseller access, gateways and call detail records. It is used by VoIP wholesalers, resellers and service providers rather than by a single business making calls.

Do I need a dedicated server or a hosted account?

A dedicated switch is for customers who need to manage their own carriers, routes, customers, balances and billing — typically resellers and route providers. A business that only needs to make calls is better served by a hosted SIP account, without the security, backup and monitoring burden of running a switch.

Is installation the same as ongoing management?

No. Installation places and configures the platform. Ongoing management covers monitoring, security patching, routing changes, backups, log review, fraud controls, troubleshooting and performance tuning. The contract should state explicitly which tasks are included after delivery.

Can a VOS server support resellers and sub-accounts?

Most carrier-grade switch platforms can create customers, resellers, sub-resellers, rate plans, credit limits and separate portal logins. The exact hierarchy depends on the software edition, licence and deployment design.

Can you migrate an existing switch?

Yes. Migration covers exporting configuration, rate tables, customer records and CDR history, running the new platform in parallel for verification, then cutting over with a tested rollback plan.

What should be tested before final payment?

Account creation, billing accuracy, rate matching, origination, termination, caller ID behaviour, failover, CDR accuracy, concurrent-call and CPS limits, backup restoration, and administrative access. Keep a written configuration record and an emergency contact process.
